Willard Spencer ’33

Willard Spencer started his 75-year music career under the tutelage of Herman Trutner at Tech. After graduation, he began a career as a professional musician. An accomplished trombonist, he played in San Francisco and Oakland symphony and opera orchestras, in big bands, and in San Francisco, Oakland, and San Leandro municipal bands. He played in military bands and in the 1939-40 Golden Gate International Exposition Band on Treasure Island. In addition to performing, Willard taught and arranged music and repaired brass instruments.
