Be a part of history!

Would you like to give back to your alma mater and the Oakland Tech community?  Would you like to take part in planning and organizing the activities to honor the 100-year anniversary of Oakland Technical High School?

Whether you are an alum, student, parent, or member of the community, there are many opportunities for you to volunteer….and we need your help now.  Please consider devoting some of your valuable time to be a part of something historic. You name it, and we’ve got a job for you!

Kickoff Event

August 2014

  1. Coordinate planning effort
  2. Contact vendors
  3. Contact businesses/sponsors
  4. Coordinate communications/PR with Communications person
  5. Recruit and coordinate volunteer workers to help with the event:
    1. Help set up before events
    2. Clean up after events
    3. Greet guests
    4. Act as guides

Gala Event

May 2015

No volunteers needed.

Communications & Publicity

Ongoing

  1. Manage alumni database using Salesforce
  2. Ongoing effort to locate alumni and enter into Salesforce database – This task can be performed by any alum, from anywhere.  Simply contact classmates and other alums via phone or email, and have them submit their bio information here.
  3. Manage Centennial website
  4. Integrate Facebook page(s)
  5. Compose and send email communications:   News & Events, Donation solicitations

Fundraising

  1. For Centennial-specific items (video, lecture series, kickoff expenses, gala)
  2. For post-Centennial endowment
  3. Work with Oakland Schools Foundation for donation processing
  4. Recruit and work with corporate/business sponsors

Video

May 2015

  1. Conduct interviews
  2. Gather other materials
  3. Coordinate production & distribution
  4. Publicize, Coordinate communications/PR with Communications person

Lecture Series

Throughout Centennial Year

  1. Contact any OT alumni who might be an interesting subject to lecture (start with list of Notable Alumni on website).
  2. Figure out how to contact each to gauge interest in speaking.
  3. Ask for speakers to speak unpaid, but negotiate fees if we think it would be worth it.
  4. Select dates for those willing and able. Coordinate calendar, evenly space out lectures, if possible.
  5. Reserve Auditorium.
  6. Organize and publicize lecture series:  website, facebook, newspapers & TV news stations. Coordinate communications/PR with Communications person.
  7. Sell tickets (higher priced individual tickets, or discounted package tickets)

Memorabilia Display

  1. Find and collect memorabilia, artifacts, photos, clothing, yearbooks, etc., associated with Oakland Tech’s past.
  2. Arrange for care and display of memorabilia at various Centennial events throughout the year.
  3. Coordinate return of memorabilia to owner, if items were not donated.
