Dear Alumni and Members of the Oakland Technical High School Community,

Oakland Technical High School “Tech” will be celebrating its 100th anniversary during the 2014-2015 school year. It is a landmark achievement, and speaks to the commitment of community, administration and faculty, and the students who have supported a consistent, quality educational experience for a century. The celebration begins with a school community fair in November 2014, continues with student programs and activities throughout the year, and culminates with an all-alumni weekend end of May 2015.

Oakland schools are facing unprecedented challenges; budget crisis, high dropout rates, and a lack of athletic, arts, technology, and science materials to fully prepare our students for the real world. Despite the many successes of Tech, it is not immune to the realities of an urban education. Tech is a Title I federal funding eligible school with a school-wide Title I program in which approximately 46% of the students qualify for free or reduced priced lunches. In short, while we have many high achieving students, we must do better. To keep the momentum going, we need your help.

The Oakland Tech Centennial Committee has been working for nearly two years to identify and support key programmatic needs, and has committed to a fundraising goal of $1 million dollars by the end of 2015 to meet these objectives. Much of what is raised will go directly to library/school improvements, development of three new academies, rental and/or purchase of an offsite building, providing after school, physical education, and mathematics, technology and science materials for the classroom.

Oakland Tech needs your help, and the help of every alumnus and friend, to build a strong foundation for our second century. Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution from you or your business that will ensure our efforts to provide a quality education and strong foundation for our children. In return, you will benefit from exposure to the event participants as well as through event promotion. All auction donors will be acknowledged on event materials, 13,000 alumni and their families, and listed on our website.
