Centennial Book Launch

The October 18th official launch of the Oakland Tech Centennial Book was a huge success with over 150 attendees and almost 200 book sales! All proceeds from book sales, as well as from other centennial merchandise, go to Principal Morrison’s initiative to provide Tech students, particularly those not yet bound for 4-year colleges, with more information about career options and pathways.

The crowd included alumni going all the way back to 1931, with many from the 1940s and 1950s.

One of Tech’s most senior alumni, Maybelle Broussard, Class of 1931, was awarded a certificate of appreciation for “a lifetime of Bulldog commitment and as a bearer of Oakland Technical High School history.” Ms. Broussard went from Tech to Cal at a time when few African American women attended the UC’s.

A highlight of the program was the presentation to Ms. Morrison of a congratulatory letter on Tech’s centennial from President Obama.
