Bob Cryer, Teacher & Coach 1959-1997

Bob Cryer, Tech Teacher and Coach 1959-1997
I coached baseball and basketball and taught PE, drivers’ ed, English, math, and biology as needed. There was some violence in the 60s and 70s, like after MLK was assassinated when kids started breaking windows and throwing around desks. School closed for a day after that. I remember the day Rita King who was black was murdered in the cafeteria by an Asian boy; all the Chinese kids were terrified. That was in 1973. They fled to the gym and we locked the door to keep them safe. Things normalized pretty fast, but that incident caused a lot of white flight. I saw a lot of things in my years here, almost 40 years! After I retired, I started substitute teaching in the Fremont schools.
